I got a request to create a graduation card for a “Queen” and it definitely took me a little bit to come up with an idea. I knew her school colors were green and white and putting “Congratulations” somewhere on the card was probably a step in the right direction, but that was about it.

As I was browsing Pinterest for ideas, I seen a post of a decorated graduation cap and I got my idea.
I practiced spelling out “Queen” with the tiniest silver rhinestones I could find and set out to find a crown. I thought I could find a sticker or crystal looking crown, but didn’t have any luck. I searched Hobby Lobby up and down and eventually found a crown I liked in the sewing section, which turned out to be a button.

I used a dark green cardstock from Recollections and formed the cap. I layered up the square part to make it sturdy enough to hold the crown, adding some evergreen bough distress ink to the edges. I cut a hole in the cardstock for the metal loop to fit through on the back of the button. I then took the small metal pin that held the button onto the packaging and stuck it back through the loop to hold the crown in place.
With the tiny rhinestones, I spelled out the word “Queen” and added some extra on each side of the crown. I used green and white embroidery thread to make a tiny tassel and used a green brad to secure it in the center of the cap.
From my stash, I found some green polka dot paper that matched and matted that on top of a piece of white cardstock, and finally matted that onto a piece of black cardstock, and attached the whole panel on top of an A2 cardbase.
To help the cap stand out, I die cut a doily out of some white cardstock and glued it to the polka dot paper.
I made a ¼” ring out of the same cardstock for the part of the cap that sits on the head and built up the inside with foam tape. I added some extra glue to the back of the square and placed it onto the foam tape.
For the sentiment, I cut out the word “Congratulations” with my Scan ‘N Cut and covered it in Stickles glitter glue. On the inside, I stamped “You did it!”
