Seeing as this is a train themed Father's Day card, I'd like to start this blog post with a dad joke:

How does a train eat? It goes Choo Choo! 🚂

Yikes! Ok, so now that that's out of the way 😆...

I started this card by making some slimline layers. I cut a piece of black card stock to 8 1/2" x 3 1/2" and a white panel to 8 1/4" x 3 1/4". I used a piece of 110 lb. white card stock to make a card base and glued all the pieces down with liquid adhesive.

I pulled out an old kit from my stash, called Old World Travel by Carta Bella, and picked out some stickers and patterned paper to create the train theme.

I created another layer using the train paper and trimmed it down to 8" x 3". I also used a few stickers by adding them to some black card stock and fussy cutting around them.

For the sentiment, I brought in a Happy Birthday die from Hello Bluebird to cut out the word HAPPY from a scrap of white card stock. I used evergreen bough and iced spruce distress oxide ink to match the letters to the sticker trim from the kit.

The rest of the sentiment was made using Lawn Fawn's happy happy happy stamp set and everyday banners. I stamped onto a banner I cut from a piece of black card stock with Versamark ink. I used white detail embossing powder and a heat tool to melt it in place.

I attached everything to the card base using Tombow Mono liquid adhesive.

For some additional embellishments I knew I wanted to add something gold. Because this was a masculine card, I didn't really want to go sparkly with sequins or gems, and I didn't have any gold enamel dots, so I decided on acrylic paint.

So for the final step, I used some metallic gold acrylic paint and an embossing stylus to add the gold dots to the front of the card.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
